Gabriel Ingliss
Gabriel, 15-years old, is the first musician to win the Music Guild of New Mexico’s Jackie McGeehee Young Artists competition on both piano and violin. As a result Gabe performed the first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the NM Philharmonic conducted by Roberto Minczuk. Gabriel will be performing Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Santa Fe Symphony in 2024-25 season, having won their concerto competition in the junior division. Gabriel also performs as a Pro Musica Apprentice Artist for the 2024-5 season after serving as an apprentice for the 2023-4 season. In 2018 he was invited to play Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D with the Symphony Orchestra of the Oberbergischer Kreis at the Lindlar Piano Festival in Germany. In 2019 Gabriel inaugurated Chatter ABQ’s Beethoven commemoration playing the Piano Sonata No. 5 and returned in 2023 with the “Appassionata” Beethoven piano sonata. In 2019 he played Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 12 for KHFM which was streamed on radio. He appeared on the New Jersey Symphony’s website in 2020, performing the Sonata for oboe and piano, Op. 166 by Saint-Saëns alongside his father, Robert. Gabriel has had the opportunity to play for such piano luminaries as Olga Kern, Anne-Marie McDermott, and Marc Neikrug. On violin he has played for Colin Jacobsen, Paul Huang, and Augustin Hadelich. Gabe has been educated at the Meadowmount School of Music, University of New Mexico, Santa Fe Prep, and La Mariposa Montessori. He started playing the violin at the age of four under the guidance of his mother Yuko Shimokawa. Currently he studies with the renowned violist Toby Appel. Gabe studies piano with Professor Falko Steinbach of UNM and Lois Shapiro. Gabriel and his brother Rafael can often be heard performing as a violin/piano duo together throughout New Mexico.
Rafael Ingliss
Rafael Ingliss, currently 12 years old, is the youngest winner of the Guild of New Mexico’s Jackie McGehee Young Artists’ Competition on piano. He performed Mozart Concerto No. 12 in A Major, K 414 with Roberto Minczuk in March 2024. He started studying at age four on both piano and violin with his mother Yuko Shimokawa and currently studies piano with Lois Shapiro. Besides music, Rafi is a skilled dancer and actor with prominent roles in Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s Nutcracker productions for the past four years. He also starred as Robin, Falstaff’s pageboy in Santa Fe Opera’s production of Falstaff in 2022. For 2023 he sang in the children’s choir for Santa Fe Opera’s Tosca. Rafi attends La Mariposa Montessori school and in the future would like to be either a musician, a visual artist, or a herpetologist.
